Thoughts on Raw and Wrestlemania

This is the first time I will do an entire blog about wrestling, but after Monday's War of words between the Rock and Cena, that's what's been on my mind. The Internet has been speculating over what was scripted and what wasn't, and if the heat between the two is legit, or were two bad actors giving their academy award winning performance on a wrestling show?

John Cena's dislike stems from the Rock leaving the WWE for a lucrative movie career while turning his back on the company that made him who he is today. I just can't help but question if the same opportunity presented itself wouldn't Cena do the same? How does anyone turn down millions of dollars and the fame to stay in pro wrestling? Is Cena trying to tell us he wouldn't do the same thing? I seriously doubt Cena has even been presented with anything but a B movie deal. And is he upset the Rock may have changed a little by letting Hollywood go to his head? I can't guarantee anyone wouldn't change a little. It just comes across as a form of jealousy.

Now that is how the WWE presents the storyline to us. I have no idea if that's how John Cena really thinks. The bottom line is this storyline will end at Wrestlemania with a mediocre match that will only matter by the finish. I'm leaning towards Cena finally turning heel after he loses the match, and then just beating the Rock to the point where all the fans turn against him. I don't read the internet for 'rumors' anymore, so I'm just guessing that's what will happen.

The biggest crime is this is the main event when a potential 5 star match between 2 great wrestlers in Chris Jericho and CM Punk should be. Not to mention how much it devalues the title. And I know the business is a work so popularity trumps the gold, but this time should be the exception. Especially now that the two current major champions in the company have credibility as 'wrestlers' and not as 'sports entertainers'. Since CM Punk used the W word you can make a case that wrestling does matter again. And if that's the case how isn't the so-called biggest prize in the business not being defended on the biggest stage in the real main event? It goes against everything they've been doing. The Rock/Cena match can be anywhere on the card and still draw the same attention and reaction. The hype of the match will be 20 times better than the match itself.

By the way, The Rock just wasn't funny. Cena's twitter follower predicted The Rock's speech dead on. 1999 material with awful insults. Trending on twitter is his new go to? Ugh.

One more thought on Wrestlemania. Let me get this straight, the Undertaker defeats Triple H at last year's Wrestlemania but because he couldn't leave the ring under his own power he feels the need for a re-match????? Does this make any sense to anyone? When does a winner challenge the loser to a re-match. Give us a better reason WWE. This idea is just mindless.

Quite frankly it makes the Undertaker look weak. And then the son-in-law initially declines the challenge because he doesn't want to end a legacy????? Is someone smoking crack as they think of this shit? Triple H actually said it would be bad for business because he's the new COO and is looking out for the best interest of the company. How is essentially ending a record and retiring someone who has little left bad for business? Even the biggest Taker fan can see the dead man won't be having a re-birth anytime soon.

This streak is becoming insulting and it all seems forced. I don't think people even care about it. As I mentioned before the business is a work. Any winning streak in wrestling is ridiculous. The Goldberg streak was the biggest joke ever. And the worst part about this match is the thousand false finishes we will be subjected to. Triple H can pull out a shotgun and shoot the Taker in the head, but the Taker will still kick out at 2 and 7/8s.

Hell in a Cell adds a little to it, because let's be honest you have to make this match as gimmicky as possible for the two to even come close to the match they had last year. At least WWE learned their lesson after Taker/HBK 2 failed miserably as a sequel. Don't get me wrong, everyone will be into the match and the finish, but I just hate the reason why this match is taking place. If anything Triple H should've been tracking down the Undertaker for the past 11 months demanding a re-match considering how close he came to beating him.

I don't know, maybe I just don't get it anymore.

  1. Vince is in a corner so to speak. The fact is he doesn't many high profile stars anymore. This fact is starting to hurt the bottomline. Company is shifting direction on how it makes money, I.e the wwe network. The plan was for the Rock to launch it at wrestlemania which was going to be on the network. Now the network will not launch till fall or next year. WWE has pumped so much money into the main event its almost a make or break for the company. MMA has hurt the WWE and this years wrestlemaina was a direct response.

As far as the undertaker you are right. But who else can he wrestle? The WWE has no one that can sell the idea he will lose. Hhh is all that is left with Jericho facing Punk. Cena is booked and Punk has the title. No way in hell will the undertaker ever hold a title again.

Personally, I'm watching it to see the Rock wrestle for most likely the lastime. That's the same reason why I went to Survivor Series. That lone reason is what Vince and the WWE have banked on millions of fans to do as well.
